Looking back on it now, I'm kinda disappointed with what they did with his character. They could've delved deep into why he was the way he was, but he ended up being a one-dimensional villain. I assumed he was in love with Blake and hated how she broke his heart, but they pushed that idea aside for "Bumblebee" (which personally thought didn't work well and was purely fan service). I'm not mad that he was killed off, just kinda disappointed that he never really had any sort of layers

Since rwbys back i decided to come back to one of my fav amvs for the show. Still hits 5 years later

funnily enough in many of the actually good RWBY crossovers I've read that include Weiss they tend to make her pick up a lot of stuff from the darker side of whatever power system is in the crossover. the weird part is that this (usually) has nothing to do with character theming or philosophy or even the author wanting to tweak her character to fit their story, nope, it's simply because they are compelled to try to complete the set: Weiss's combat style is made of most of the skills beaten into her for the purpose of becoming a decorative child bride she took everything from history lessons to ballet training to the endless drills and instruction on courtroom politicking and turned them all into weapons with which to _kill_ everything down to learning how to do her damned makeup was picked apart and analyzed until she could find at least _some_ aspect of the skillset that she could apply to combat with the sole exception of her singing lessons. to be fair she turned those into a way to keep herself sane through a childhood even friggin' *Adam* wouldn't envy and eventually into a method of self expression but people love patterns so to a LOT of authors writing a fanfic no weaponized music feels like an incomplete set and, well, weaponizable music tends to be the slow-but-powerful stuff you give the indirect characters usually stuck in villain roles a *lot* more often than a tool fit for plucky heroes, sometimes you can get a battlebard out of this but most of the time? it ends up with Weiss singing Aku Do Nara in the middle of a fight while her opponent slowly realizes that the prissy girl trying to stick a sword through their face at Mach-ohSHIT while singing like she's in a damned concert hall is actually casting ritual magic and it is probably well past time to be freaking the heck out.
